You have arrived at the site of the church of St Mary, an English-speaking community of Christian prayer and worship within the Anglican Communion, located in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
We meet for worship - usually the Eucharist - at 11.30 on Sunday mornings in downtown Belgrade in the Winter Chapel at the Church of St Peter (Crkva sv. Petra), Makedonska 23, belonging to the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). We also meet for services, prayer and Bible studies during the week. Earlier this year, when it wasn't possible for us to meet to worship in person, we began to use both Facebook and Zoom as platforms for online worship and community. For a schedule of upcoming in-person and online services and events, click on the calendar page.
Due to the current COVID-19 measures and restrictions, we are following social distancing within the Chapel, and we do ask that those attending worship wear masks. Thank you for your help and co-operation in this matter.
People come to St Mary’s for many reasons, from many places, to seek and share faith and life. We are a mixed community of ex-pats and locals, Europeans, Africans, Americans, Asians and Australians – all sorts. We are a chaplaincy within the Church of England, yet we come from many backgrounds and Christian denominations.
The people of St Mary’s heed these words from the Apostle Paul:
“May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God!”
Whether you are new to Serbia, a long-time resident, someone eager to glorify God or just wondering what it’s all about, you are invited!
St Mary’s is unique. We are the only Anglican presence in Serbia. Our worship life centres around weekly celebration of the Holy Eucharist
Sunday Eucharist is held weekly at 11.30am in the chapel at the Church of St Peter (Crkva sv. Petra), Makedonska 23, Belgrade. Coffee hour, and from time to time a potluck lunch, follows in the adjacent hall.
St Mary’s Belgrade is part of the Diocese in Europe. It was established by the Church of England to care for English-speaking people on the continent. St Mary’s is one of about two dozen Christian communities within the diocese’s Eastern Archdeaconry
St Mary's has a full and vibrant worshipping and social life - find out more about our programme of services and events on our Calendar page.
